Science Field Trips

We recently had the opportunity to engage in several science field trips.  A short description of the trips that took place is as follows:

6th grade trip: “The content for this year’s 6th grade science geologic seacoast fieldwork was created personally for Stella Maris Academy by a Geology Professor for Mr.Klubberud. The trip involved a variety of concepts and activities. Students practiced relative geologic dating, Moh’s hardness testing, fossil observation, and mineral identification. The exposed sedimentary bands of rock near La Jolla’s Hospital Point provided an ideal setting for the students to conduct their fieldwork.”

4th grade trip: “The content for this year’s 4th grade science tide pool fieldwork was created  by Mr.Klubberud to integrate concepts about invertebrates covered in the 4th grade textbook. The trip involved a variety of concepts and activities.  Students practiced animal and kelp identification and observed tide pool interactions. The tide pools north of La Jolla’s Marine Street provided an ideal setting for 4th graders to conduct their fieldwork.”

5th grade trip: “The content for this year’s 5th grade science tide pool fieldwork was created by Mr.Klubberud to integrate concepts about animal structures and adaptations covered in the 5th grade textbook. The trip involved a variety of concepts and activities.  Students practiced animal identification and observed tide pool interactions. The tide pools north of La Jolla’s Marine Street provided an ideal setting for 5th graders to conduct their fieldwork.”

7th grade trip: “The content for this year’s 7th grade science tide pool fieldwork was created by Mr. Klubberud to integrate advanced concepts covered in the 7th grade textbook about animal classification. The trip involved a variety of concepts and activities. Students practiced animal taxonomy and observed tide pool interactions. The tide pools north of La Jolla’s Marine Street provided an ideal setting for 7th graders to conduct their fieldwork.”
